Liquid Glacial Acetic Acid Content
Principle: Neutralization titration with sodium hydroxide standard solution using phenolphthalein as an indicator. Formic acid content is deducted in the calculation.
Reagents and Solutions:
Sodium hydroxide standard solution: c(NaOH) = 1 mol/L.
Phenolphthalein indicator: 5 g/L ethanol solution. Dissolve 0.5 g phenolphthalein in 100 ml of 95% (V/V) ethanol and neutralize with a 4 g/L sodium hydroxide solution until a faint pink color appears.
Apparatus: Conical weighing bottle (3 ml capacity); alkaline burette (50 ml capacity).Liquid Glacial Acetic Acid.
Procedure: Weigh approximately 2.5 g of sample in a conical weighing bottle, accurate to 0.0001 g. Place the bottle into a 250 ml conical flask containing 50 ml of carbon dioxide-free distilled water. Open the bottle cap, add 0.5 ml of phenolphthalein indicator, and titrate with sodium hydroxide standard solution until a faint pink color persists for 5 seconds.
